LOL
Not much to say and that's reason I ain't been posting on this here blog-a-ma-boo. I am trying to catch up on my movie watching though. Man these movies suck. I managed to re-rent M.Knight.Shymalanmanann-or-whatever's "the Village". That movie still pissed me off the third time. Good Job MKS.
Everyone's working. No one is around that much.
They are giving us a new student lounge by the way. Nice and redone. All new furniture. About time. I never really sat in the old one because the seats stank and it was just too damp. I hope they do some natural wood or redwood type motif.
Went to the beach recently. That's the fishbowl in the library. For those that don't know, the fishbowl which should really be called the fishaquarium, is located on the second floor right behind the main elevator.
Anyway so I'm in there and I see all these people.

I can tell they aren't law students b/c there books are strange colors with designs and pictures on the front. They also have these notes with what looks to be shapes made with protractors (you remember protractors..i haven't seen that crap since middle school precal).

Anyway, so I set up right. See I make sure to turn my phone in silent mode and my computer is on silent itself until i plug in my headphones. You can also tell the other law kids in the room b/c they have the ear plugs (orange, yellow, green). Anyway, after 10 minutes of sitting there, this dude answers his phone. I just stopped. He answers his phone and proceeds to have a convo. WTF. I am looking at him and I guess his buddy gets to hint and gives him the arm-shove to get out of the room. Ok, he's an a-hole. No prob. He's out. Ok. Cool.

So I go back to reading right. A few minutes later this girl's computer gets a little IM alert. Her shits not on silent mode. WTF. So she answers the IM and I guess the God of Dumbasses sends her a knock in the head and she turns off the sound. Ok, that was SF annoying. No prob. We are back on course. Remember that guys with the phone. Well he's back the room and he answers the damn phone again!

I am a pretty even tempered person. Like Someguy. But I do have my days and this was not the one to be screwing around on esp. during finals. I just wanted to hurl my civpro book at the wall above his head. Instead I just stared at him and his friend. They both left after another 15 minutes. I was still staring as they left. Man! Ok. All good now.
Bag of chips gets opened. I'm out! I packed up my items as quickly as I could and headed over to the StarBucks. At the least the noise becomes white noise after about five minutes.

Remember the Job Uproar thing from SomeGuy...

Well I just recently came across this post from an old chum
and my old chum echoes the post that created such an uproar on another chums blog with some fray continuing to go back and forth.

Well it seems that LAWFOOL, who is at a top ranked school has added to the info and seems to solidly stand behind SomeGuy. (AP) - Two Duke University lacrosse players were arrested early Tuesday on charges of raping and kidnapping a stripper hired to dance at an off-campus party, and the district attorney said he hopes to charge a third person soon.

The indictments, unsealed Tuesday, did not indicate what possible evidence or arguments led the grand jury Monday to indict Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty, both 20. District Attorney Mike Nifong would not discuss the evidence.

``It had been my hope to charge all three of the assailants at the same time, but the evidence available to me at this moment does not permit that,'' Nifong said. ``Investigation into the identity of the third assailant will continue in the hope that he can also be identified with certainty.''

Read the rest of the story at the link. I'm leavin' it all behind. Anyone know anything about corporate governance law as it relates to the US and Canada.
So this year is almost over and soon we will see the new crop come in. It's exciting really. Reminds me of the good-ole days. Those first 1L months. I miss them.
I still alternate back and forth between liking this town and not. Seems this month I like this town. Been getting a lot of questions about hurricanes from friends up yonder in the northern country. Hurricanes-smuricanes... I say. Live life on the edge. Well, I already spent my next-damn-flight-outta-this-hurricane-hell piggybank on the beach a few weeks ago.
I also just realized the other day that there are a lot of familiar faces missing on campus. I've been looking for them and I think that they are gone for good. I wish those folks well. If they left, that had to be hard decision.

Never ceases to amaze...

Law center chancellor removes SBA president Gardner
dismissed for racial e-mail
By Amy Brittain

February 14, 2006

LSU law center Chancellor John Costonis removed Student Bar Association President Jacob Gardner from office after months of controversy about an e-mail Gardner sent containing racial jokes.

According to a law center statement released Monday, Gardner accidently forwarded an e-mail titled “Ghetto Spellin’ Bee” to law center administrators and Alcie Maxwell, a Black Law Students Association member, on Oct. 21, 2005.

Maxwell declined to comment for this story.

The e-mail, modeled as a mock homework assignment from an inner-city student, included 15 vocabulary words defined in an Ebonics dialect. Gardner accidently sent the e-mail to Maxwell after Maxwell e-mailed him to recommend SBA display BLSA bulletin boards in the law center.

“Maybe we can post this [list] on those bulletin boards BLSA is riding my ass about?!?” Gardner wrote in the e-mail.

According to the joint statement from Costonis and Gardner, Gardner “immediately apologized to the “unintended recipient” and accepted full responsibility for his actions. Costonis removed Gardner because he believed he had to send a “clear message” to students and accrediting agencies about racial diversity commitment.

But The Daily Reveille reported that in a Nov. 1, 2005, SBA meeting, Gardner refused to fully apologize because he needed to “further educate himself on the ramifications of an apology.”

Gardner declined to comment and clarify this discrepancy between the joint statement and his previous comments.

According to the statement, Costonis actively “urged Mr. Gardner to resign from office,” but impending finals caused Costonis to postpone his decision until the spring semester.

Gardner does not agree with Costonis’ decision but does not plan to contest it, according to the statement.

While the statement says the SBA voted to retain Gardner as president, William Sentell, law student and SBA representative, said “some wanted to impeach him.”

“It’s absurd to think that any student, elected or not, is somehow immune from administrative oversight or sanction,” he said. “There is no doubt in my mind that Chancellor Costonis made every effort to ensure that this matter was handled fairly and judiciously. The result he reached today is in the best interest of the law center and the Student Bar Association.”

Karen Soniat, law center director of communications, said Costonis declined to comment further because his statement “speaks for itself.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, when I was a little ole 1L, we had a SBA president bru-ha-ha but nothing on this level. College at around 6:40, I noticed some balloons and music coming from the courtyard in the middle of the architecture buildings. It looked like a bunch of donors and alumnis so I thought it would be a good idea to inform them of the issues here on campus. But I continued on to a meeting to discuss crowd control for the march tomorrow. After we discussed the pressing concerns about the march, Johweyeh, Beni, Nina and Courtney (2 SEIU workers) and I headed to the new architecture building to hand out living wage pamphlets to the people at the little party. No one stopped us or even noticed us when we walked in; there was a dancing/singing act that was performing at the same moment. As I walked around the back of the tables as to not disturb anyone's view of the music, I placed the pamphlets on the tables where people were sitting, and a few times handed people the material, but I never talked to anyone there. When approached with one pamphlet left, I was asked to leave by a women in a shiny, profesional nametag. Immediately I left to where Johweyeh, Beni, Nina, and Courtney were talking with the Dean of the Architecture School. A cop was talking on his radio next to us and asked me if I was the one passing out pamphlets throughout the party. I admitted I was, and when asked if I had any more materials I obediantly handed over my last pamphlet. I thought that would be the end of it, but then I heard someone over his radio say they needed my name. I started to worry then, for I knew I hadn't disturbed the program and thought I should be ok to leave. A moment later the officer asked me my name, and not sure of my rights and afraid of getting in trouble for something I didn't do, I refused to give my name and told him that I was reserving my right to stay silent. He told me I had to tell him my name, and I said I wouldn't. I told him I did not do anything wrong, and asked him why he would possibly need my name, and he told me he would have to fill out a police report. He also asked me for my cane card, and when I told him that I did not have it on me, he accused me of breaking a university rule that required me to have my cane card on me at all times. Then I became extremely worried and scared. Everyone around me was listening to me and trying to support me, they were telling the cop to not yell at me and asking what I did to break the law. I did the same, saying I didn't break any laws, and that I was a student on this campus and I was allowed to be anywhere I wanted to be. My phone was in my pocket, so I called Jake Coker-Dukowitz, and told him two cops were harassing me for my name by the architecture building and that he should come soon to help me. You must understand that I had two men badgering and towering over me...and I already had had a very, very emotional day that included losing a couple of friends because I realized they had no compassion for others and being discriminated against for the first time for being a women. So the one cop was asking me why I was making such a big deal about it and that I needed to comply. Beni then put her arms around me and I started to tear becuase I didn't know why I was getting in trouble and what would happen if I did. At that time I asked if I could just wallk away, but he wouldn't let me because he said he had to fill out an incident report. This main cop also started asking me to go to a remote area of the pathway so I could give them my name, but I told them I didn't want to leave my friends and that I felt uncomfortable moving from the spot I was at. I kept claiming that I did nothing wrong, and that they (the 2 cops) knew what I was doing was right. Then two more cops came up to us, and one of them, the older, heavier one with gray hair grabbed my left forearm with both hands and shoved me in the direction the other cops had been directing me to. In retaliation, not even thinking, my arm flew up in the air and I flew back. I raised my voice and yelled "DON'T TOUCH ME!!!", and threatened to make a scene if I was touched again. I started to hyperventilate and cry because of the shock I was in, and this is when Nina started recording with her camera. The cop that harassed me walked away right away, but since my arm might have brazed his chest when it naturally tried to escape from someone's forceful grip, the original cop told me that what I just did was battery because I hit a cop (which I clearly did not do). He also insisted that I could also be charged with hiding my identity because I would not reveal my name. My friends asked the cop to let me have some time to collect myself, and i reached down to my feet for a while to try and clear my head. Then the cop that shoved me came back and said I had broken the solicitation rules on campus, and I said I didn't see any policy hanging up on paper around the event, so how was I to know? He came back at me that I was required to know the policies of UM because I was a student and that it was my responsibility to know them. I asked him where all of this info was located, and he told me the Rules Handbook or something of that matter. All four were badgering me for my name, and telling my friends to give them thier names or go away; "this wasn't a public matter". I was so upset and afraid of the two charges they were waving in my face that I finally complied to go sit down at a chair about 15 feet away and give them my name. As I was walking there, Liana, Jake and about 10 other students ran towards me, asking the officers what this was about. The remaining three cops made my friends disperse, and I decided to call my Residential Assistant Jemilia to let someone higher than me know what was going on. She didn't answer, but I left a message. The cop accused me of saying that they were harassing me after I hung up the phone, and all I said was that what was happening to me was bullshit. After I told them and spelled out my name, they asked me for my birthday and I gave it to them. The cop behind me said that that was all they needed and they all fleed closer to the party.

I am appauled at the fact that I was harassed on my own campus, by UM police officers when I did nothing criminally wrong. I was extremely polite to the officers, the only exception is when I raised my voice after the one shoved me. The tone they used with me was completely obsured and rude, and I did not appreciate them hounding me and yelling at me in my face. I tried to be as brave as possible, and I know I was difficult but that does not explain or justify the actions that were taken upon me. Not only did I not deserve this treatment, but I am utterly disappointed that the police here on campus are not trained to deal with student activism; how they are trained to use violence against students is ridiculous. I was not a threat or a danger to anyone Thursday night, and I am outraged that I was taken advantage of and treated like a criminal.

Please help me spread the word of how ugly this campus becoming.

In struggle,
Alyssa Cundari
630-***-****

PS- I was too overwelmed to get the names of the officers, but Nina has them written down and I will send them to you all tomorrow when I get them.

The Abdala/Korman Saga Continues....

Previously I posted a forwarded email sent by a buddy of mine. The debated continues throughout blog land. You can pick and choose: here, nightline's got it, even a rockstar, and it goes on and on. More and more folks are debating the ethics and reasoning behind the infamous exchange. The original article by Sacha Pfeiffer has set off a sensation. You can write her or him at pfeiffer@globe.com for any further developments.
It seems, per further perusal, that Abdala comes from a fairly well-to-do background and has sought to have Korman sanctioned for dissembling the email. Like I said before, don't put it on paper (or the proverbial paper).

See, now what I would do, I would buy that domain name see. DiannaAbdala.com and make a fortune while I could. Maybe reenact the whole email scandal, and yeah, use words like "infamous" and "scandal". You'd have to download RealOne player in order to view the reenactment (so this way I could charge RealOne so type of fee b/c they would be making money). Maybe set up some type of confrontation w/ Korman on the steps of the courthouse and have the local media there or even invite Nightline. Then, Like BritKev, I would go on my site and tell my story and show pics of bruises or even a link that would force you (Ah-Ha) to download RealOne in order to see the confrontation. Now, on the fifth season of NBC's The Apprentice, José "Pepi" Diaz, A.B. '02, joins Erin Elmore, B.S.C. '00, Todd Bunkley, A.B. Diaz is an attorney at Ackerman Senterfitt in Miami. He received his undergraduate degree at UM and a degree in law from Columbia University. Aside from his legal duties, he also has traveled extensively and volunteers his time for Habitat for Humanity. "I think I can make a real difference in the Trump organization," said Diaz. DRIP... DRIP... DRIP

So I wanted to blog about something before the month is over. Let's see.

Grades:
Yup got em. And so do you. Who gives a flying flip burger. What's the difference between a 4.0 student who has passed the bar and a 2.1 student who has passed the bar?
I don't much really care about grades these days. I should of course but water under the bridge and all. Still waiting for that thunder clap or break in the clouds that tells me I want to stay here. Yup, still waitin'.

What else? What have I observed during the past few weeks?
Well, it really is a big cycle of the same old crap. The 1Ls act exactly like the 2Ls and I am sure that we are acting exactly like the 3Ls. Here that they have the same freakish gunners in certain 1Ls classes (A.E.) that we had last year. Really when people always say, "Yeah, there is always that one apple..." you would think that that one particular apple would be able to see it. I mean they tell us, don't be that guy. But sure enough, look up and there he is. BTW, is there a reason that this apple is ALWAYS A GUY? I mean when I think back, I have never seen a woman who truly fills the bill of "Psycho-gunner-gone-mad".

There have been a bunch of upper level students running around in school lately. All the 1Ls stare and wonder what the heck are they doing. Is it OCI? Some forum? What? Don't worry folks, LitSkills rears it's head.

The bus system on campus is atrocious. I waited 17:36 for the Express Fountain bus the other day. I was so mad, I swear I almost yelled at the dang driver. I checked myself b/c I know he's just doing his job. And why the heck do you need to stop right in the middle of a passage way to talk out of you driver's damn window to another driver for forty seconds? Didn't I just have to wait while you sat your happy ass 50 feet away from the stop for the last two minutes? And if you honk at me again to walk down to you instead of stopping at the appointed place, I swear I will throw an egg!

1Ls have discovered the evil of LRW (legal research and writing). You could do a most excellent job on your transcript but if you have a C in LRW, you are screwed to high hell. I mean yeah you could explain it away but how often will you even get that chance. I just know that there is a SECRET reason as to why these lawyers come back and teach that class. I just haven't figured it out yet. I mean not all of them are bad. I have heard of great ones. But those that really suck and don't give any good CONSTRUCTIVE feedback, why are they here? why?

I have gotten some good email lately from the school. But I will share those at another time. Right now it's back to the daily grind. Nice spot actually. I just wish the folks in this damned town were so much more down to earth. Anyway, we are all hangin by the pool bar ...

Now let me stop right here to discuss something real quick... The damn prices. I understand that if you have money, it means nothing to you. And that's ok, i guess. But damnit when I order a drink, whether it be a funky-azz martini or a corona, give me a DRINK. Don't give me some pansy ass shot glass and call it a drink, esp. at the freakin rates you are selling them for. I understand the "no glass in pool area rule" but you really need to charge me $18.00 for a small/shot martini plastic glass and then $10 for a can, yes CAN, of corona... which by the way tasted funny. Does that really make me more special or cooler than the peeps in Coral Gables or Ft. Laud? I don't think so.

Anyway, so we decide to go sit on one of the beds by the pool side. First off, I didn't want to sit on the damned thing because I swore I saw some chick earlier "revisiting" her last drink on another bed as we came in. But we sit. Some of my friends had their friends visiting from London and wanted to show them a good time. After we are cooling out for bit, some guys walk by, drunk of course, and one spots some hot girls and decides to layout on the bed with us. This of course brings the rest of his friends (5 in all). So I don't say a word and they proceed to talk to the girls and unfortunately, as I am thinking in the back of my mind don't say a word b/c as soon as they here the accent, BINGO, "oh you are English...how sexy". Jesus, I wanted to smack him for being so smart. Anyway, they start to corner the girls but I keep my cool and let them talk. My bud J-Son finally comes back and he starts to get that look. A few minutes go by and one of the girls gives me the look of "oh my god, help me" to which I respond (in my firm, listen to what i say command).. "Good night Gentlemen and thank you for stopping by". After the quite two seconds when the guys looked put out and my friends tried not to laugh, one of the dudes says, "Well!.. I know when I'm not wanted." Again, I wanted to applaud him for his smartness.
So them left and my new friends say to me in that classic English accent, "That was brilliant! Thank you." J-Son said that he was about to do something and was glad I spoke first.
Like I said, the "firm-do I as say command voice" requires immediate acquiescence.

So this is classic SoBe and why I usually never attend any festivities down there. I like things simple. What can I say.

Turkey-Turkey

I always wondered if turkish people ever thought us nuts for having Turkey on a thanksgiving.
Get it? I mean that societal norms pretty much dictate what ceratin people in certain positions in your life are supposed to do. Like friends do this, and parents do that, siblings do this, stranger do that... etc, etc,...

What happens when one of these people refuses to fulfill the expectations associated with their role. Like take me for instance, I open doors for my girlfriend/wife/flavorofthemonth whenever a door is around and she wants to go through it. I pull out her seat, call her when I can, let her call me "smoofty" behind closed doors... etc, etc. What about her role? Shouldn't she clean up after me, know how to cook or at least make strides in that direction, give other chicks evil looks when they are checkin me out, ignore me when I am checkin them back... etc, etc, ... I fulfill my role why can't she...

This post was borrowed from the mind of a friend of mine who recently spoke to me about annoying things in general. You have to graduate by 2007.

Race Discrim... Do I necessarily endorse this scholarship? NO. I think that in the end game, it does nothing. I think that these types of things foster hate/anger by persons who feel as that they are left in the cold. I think that it leaves minority students scrambling for that 1 spot that is opened to them.

I would agree that basing LR entrance on race is a huge flub. I am not for that at all. I'd have to do some looking into the dwindling numbers of minorities in the LR lately. I think that this is also across the board for most law schools.

I do agree with Thomas on a lot of issues (as I roll my eyes). Unfortunately we start to get into other areas (social science) that the law historically does not like to use to account for things.

Again, I guess I would ask the firm why only those people

<link rel='related' href='http://bricksonthebrain.blogspot.com/2005/11/outrageous-discriminatory-recruitment_11.html#comments' title='Race Discrim... LF your insight, level-headedness, prose have been missed. My response here is sort of free thought b/c I am definitely not going to sit and compose a LR article. Thanks for calling me level headed by the way.
I have to say that I see and understand what you are getting at. My response in answer to the difference is: “The Entitlement Theory”. It’s a theory that I have discussed with many here at UM (be they operating under that theory or not). Students here at UM, in my O-pine, have this sort of WIFM-entitlement thought process. “I should have gotten … b/c I”, “I don’t have to do … b/c I have …” or “I don’t have to show respect to … b/c I am or my family is …”. It’s really disgusting. Even more disgusting is that I have started to fall into that line of thought. Part of this problem is also added onto by the school itself and some of the admin. When you foster an environment that allows students to think themselves above others and allow them to buy wholly into the Entitlement Theory, what else are we to expect. I would also add that this is Florida, even it is South Florida. Don’t forget that the range of experiences here will be “slightly” different than Michigan. Yeah, some will say that a lot of these students went to other schools from all over the country. Something happened to those students when they crossed the southern line. Even now I am typing away in a class. Yesterday, 5 people passed in a 4 credit course… I mean that flat out told the Professor (a more learned person than they deserving of every kind of respect), “You will have to call on someone else.” Yes, a student told the Professor these words. Once again, disgusting. I mean could that student have just said, “I apologize Professor BillyBob but I am unprepared today, MAY I pass?” LF, I wonder what that Professor would have said/ nay thought in response to the second sentence vs. the first sentence. I won’t even begin to go into the way that student treat certain profs as compared to others.
So back to my Entitlement Theory. You said that students there know that they have opportunities but still work to get even better ones. I constantly hear people (many many students) complain here about what the CPC (career planning) should be doing to get them jobs. Please!!!! If you don’t know by now that YOU have to maximize any and all opportunities that you can or that you have to sometimes go out and make it happen, you are in for a long depressing road and I really don’t feel sorry for you entitled azz. You decided to come to a school where the chance of getting a job is decreased by half because more that half the people in schools across the country want to come to Sunny-South Beach Miami.
My diatribe is not complete but again this is another’s blog and I won’t take up anymore space.

HOWEVER, all that said, I will say that LF, you do make it sound like ice cream, parties, and hot naked chicks all over up there. I KNOW that there are bad points. I know that there are things that are better in MIA-UM than in Mich. Can we hear the other side? So, I would say in the end that the students there most likely aren’t smarter or even better. Like you said you didn’t expose yourself to as many as I have and I would venture to say that the same is going on up there. I’d say that all in all, people are neck-in-neck. Law school is still a big high school situation no matter where you go. The P/F option at your school, I feel, has a lot to do with the psyche of the students there. I wonder what would happen if next year, you guys faced GPA/Grade system of UM. I feel that maybe your worst fears might be realized and Mich would seem pretty similar to that distant school you used to go to.

If I missed something, pls forgive. It was free flow.

Get Your Money Back---

How about a partial refund. So as a law student, you would think that you could at least eat one hot meal on campus after a huge hurricane w/o any hassels right. I mean, you have an id and you pay out the azz in tuition-- so I ask what is the big damn deal about one plate of food.
Obviously a huge deal because you should have seen the posse at the front door ready to take me down if I tried to make one move toward the lady with the hair net slinging out hash. If I didn't appreciate the fact that I have just survived another devastating hurricane with all my limbs in tact, I may have tried a Vick-move on em and snatched some food up.
What I'll do is just add this incident to the massive list that I have titled: "Bad Things About University of Miami". I just want to chill with a cup of joe. I want to bug the shit out of my roomy in peace. Is that too much too ask? Anyway this class that I am in (am) is frankly hilarious. I would say that the rightys always show up to voice their opinion here or there and quite frankly can be down right damned insulting and rude to the professor. Then when there is a meeting to discuss ideas and this meeting doesn't necessarily follow your views, you don't want to show up to learn a little something of which you really have no idea about because you have already made up your mind about the subject.
You know I have gone to some meetings where I did not necessarily agree with what was being said, but I wanted to know what the ideas were. I wanted to understand and get a feel for where that person was coming from. I didn't dig my heels in and bury my head as so many others have.
One of my classmates told me that he thought that law school and people attending lawschool were supposed to be some of the top minds and thinkers around. He was utterly surprised by some of the comments and disrespectful attitudes evidenced in class discussion. I laughed and checked myself.... I forgot, even with his accent, that he is not from here (US i mean). He hasn't seen some of the shit that I have or experienced these same type of comments from people who really don't know what it means to have not. I told him that there are some students fortunately that don't feel this way and actually are interested in learning about others. Unfortunately, they keep quite and don't say much. I just hope that they think some of these comments are as ridculous as I think they are.

Get a load of this

Why can't LAW STUDENTS get a makeover? Go to Dean’s Fellows. DFs are 2Ls or 3Ls who took your class last year or the year before and got an A. They’re not necessarily the smartest people in law school but they have figured it out. They know what it takes to succeed in law school and in most cases they mastered the way your prof teaches. I had 7 DFs last semester. Four were terrific. Two were fine. One was awful, but I still went because occasionally the DF would throw out a useful nugget. Use the DFs as a resource. They’re doing the DF job because they want to help you. Take advantage.
2. Don’t let Elements get you down. It is the bane of many 1L’s existence. Understand that you’re not supposed to really get it from the beginning. For most people, it starts to come together at the end. Don’t panic about Butler v. Wolf Sussman. Read it. Then read it again. Then one more time. Then don’t sweat it. It’s not supposed to make sense after one case. Elements is a process.
3. Eat at Subway as infrequently as possible. If you can avoid it, eat somewhere else or bring your lunch. You’ll end up eating plenty of meals at Subway and you’ll get sick of it soon so avoid it whenever possible.
4. Join lots of clubs and go to lots of lectures. Most serve pizza. That’s a free lunch.
5. If you start a blog, don’t use your real name. Use a pseudonym. Like Klio or Lawfool or Tortious intereference.
6. Don’t be a gunner. People hate gunners. There’s a clear line between being the guy who talks a lot because he answers the prof’s questions and the guy who has a “What if…” question and anecdote for every case and who argues constantly with the prof. Don’t be That Guy.
7. Start outlining early. It makes exam time more tolerable. But not too early. The point of outlining is to get a general overview of what’s important in the class. You can’t do that for at least a month, maybe six weeks or so.
8. Do not get stressed about the midterm exam. This school has an odd tradition: It gives all 1Ls one midterm – you’re randomly assigned to take it in one of your classes. You get written feedback from the prof, but no grade. The prof will never know who wrote it because you use blind grading numbers and they’re handed back with blind grading numbers. It’s a one-hour exam. It has no relation to real law school exams. It’s a waste of time, an exercise in frustration and nothing more than a reason to ruin a good weekend.
9. Don’t necessarily do what other people do. Law school is rough. People manage it in different ways. He goes out and gets hammered five nights a week. She never goes out and studies until 2 a.m. He never seems to study (but that’s because he gets up at 4 a.m. and does all his work before class). Whatever routine seems to work for you is fine. The problem is you’ll have no idea what works for you because you get no feedback until after the first semester. By the end of the semester you’ll have a sense of how much you know and how hard you need to work during exam time.
10. Carry an umbrella. It rains a lot in South Florida.
11. Ignore most advice (including the advice on this blog) and do whatever you think works for you. The first year of law school is no picnic for most people. But you’ll get through it. Although it’s tough, the purpose here is not to weed out people. (I’m not sure what the purpose of making it so grueling is, but I know the objective isn’t to weed you out; the school needs your money um, I mean wants to educate you.)

posted by some guy @ 4:16 PM

Surprise, surprise...

And what will they do about it....NOTHING!
Guess who is smiling though, and kicking back with "I-told-you-so-s". I was awesome. I rocked! Right... so much disappointment in the ointment. I worked so hard this past year and I will keep working hard but no wonder students like to fly off tall buildings or bridges. Schools and people can be very depressing. It's bad enough that life, mostly 70% of the time, can be depressing but then you add in graduate school and cut that school and the people that attend these institutions and then you throw in (for kicks) the "lets-see-how-much-you-suck" meter. I hear about these folks who did well, got what they worked for. They deserve it, don't get me wrong and I am proud and happy as heck for em' but didn't I deserve it too. I mean not a huge piece or even the whole shebang but I could have at least gotten that one thing that I wanted. That damn one thing... I really wanted that... I just want to throw something.
Sad part is that I am one of those people who is constantly aware of time. I don't mean like it's 12:30 right now, I mean time. So limited. I just want to get in as much as possible before. It's frustrating to work this hard and not be good at it. So frustrating that I haven't been able to concentrate for over a week now. But I guess this is one of those life lessons, right... Even if you are good at it doesn't mean it's gonna be yours. I'll have to keep that one in front of me. But damn it's frustrating. I'll have to shove it to the side because I have bigger considerations than myself right now, try to keep the bigger picture in mind....

I am not saying that I plan on flying but I can darn well understand why some students would want to.

Cool azz links

When will it stick in my head how to link up those cool links like all the other flippin bloggers, like Someguy and Lawfool. You even have a nick that isn't meant in a nice way. I feel sorry for you chick. So would I rather have all A's. I mean you have no idea what you are getting. Stimulus is in the eye of the beholder but if you have no eyes then touch and other senses replace. I think this school has a very lacsidasical attitude toward the student body government. I mean the profs really don't care either. They are mostly worried about getting published and tenure. Well I was kinda going on and on about how much stuff sucks out here like- the food in the grocery stores (veggis are mostly rotten by the time they get down this far south because everything is trucked in), the restaurant service or lack there of (like we went to this place called 'the Diner' and it's supposed to be upscale and with price like south beach I expect some ass kissin' but the waiter acted like we were wasting his time), the people really aren't that nice out here (just down right rude at times and too ass-uming at times), and just other stuff in general.....

More than likely I will go back home where it better by my standards. Sorry MIA.
** So for those who may pass 'the Diner', their baked alaska is good but I don't recommend the burger.

Sell My Body!

**Read the last post.**

That is a good one my friend! I thought I was paying for this crap. With the little parking available that I still have to pay for, the nonexistent reliable bus service, the 30,000 grand, and the hike to the 3rd floor for class--- Is it too much to ask to give a &*!@$#^% a minute or two to get to class on that occassional off day. That's #1.

Like JW has said grades are in. The famous and infamous A.L. has been unmasked. Undoubtedly in the New York Times no less. Good for him. What a way to go out or come out. LOL. The article is in the Dec. 26 issue and written by a Sara Rimer "Revealing the Soul of a Soulless Lawyer". All of us suckers out there. I really real sorry for the folks who actually sent him their resumes. How humbling. Even the profs who were quoting the faker.
Any some kid "supposedly" named Jeremy Blachman who lives with his moms in Brooklyn and is a 3L at (you guessed it) Harvard.
So are some people mad, angry, upset. Well I can't blame them. Just got jerked around by a 3L having a good time on a blog. Playing with their emotions. Aw, get over it. At least he didn't sell you a diamond mine in Africa. (Every time I think of that guys scam, I roll in utter laughter) Diamond mine in Africa = Ocean front property in Arizona.

I can't wait to tell JW, in case he doesn't already know.
